1984 cover curved Jan 21
1984 by George Orwell
Winston Smith, a member of the Outer Party, works in the Ministry of Truth. He rewrites and distorts history. Big Brother is the conceptual leader of the party. To escape Big Brother’s tyranny, at least inside his own mind, Winston begins a diary. The act is punishable by death. But Winston is determined to remain human under inhuman circumstances. Telescreens are placed everywhere — in home, in office, in restaurants, in bathrooms. No place is safe. Winston and Julia, a dark-haired girl from the Fiction Department, fall in love. They believe that the love and loyalty can never be taken away from them, even under the worst circumstances. Winston and Julia begin their allegiance against the Party. O’Brien, a leader close to Big Brother, tries to change Winston’s way of thinking. O’Brien tries to employ two opposing ideas in Winston’s mind. He wants Winston to believe that 2 + 2 = 5. But Winston is rebellious. O’Brien takes Winston to Room 101, the most dreaded room of all in the Ministry of Love, the place where human meets his greatest fear... One of the world's great classics. Complete and unabridged.

animal farm Jan 17
ANIMAL FARM by GEORGE ORWELL
Animal Farm was Orwell's first highly successful novel (the second being 1984). It was published on the heels of World War II, in England in 1945 and in the United States in 1946. Orwell personifies the animals in the tradition of allegory so that they symbolize real historical figures. Animal Farm is also a powerful satire. Orwell uses irony to undermine the tenets of totalitarianism, specifically that of Stalinism. Though he agreed with many Marxist principles, Orwell was unable to accept the communist interpretation of socialism because he saw many similarities between the communist governments and the previous czarist regimes in old Russia. Communism, he thought, was inherently hypocritical. One of the world's most read classics. Complete and unabridged text with introduction. Broken Ties & Other stories by Rabindranath Tagore
This book is Rabindranath Tagore’s sixth creative work. The book is different from all his other works and is written in a refreshingly different style. The main story in the book, Broken Ties, revolves around the life of Satish, who lives with his uncle Jagamohan. One day, Satish and Jagamohan have a conflict and Satish leaves his uncle’s house. Some time passes Satish’s departure, and soon, he returns to the same house with a request for a favour. Satish wants to save a girl named Nonibala who is being tortured by one of the neighbourhood goons. Jagamohan offers refuge to Noni in his home. But Satish’s brother, Purandar, misbehaves with Noni. Disappointed with the developments and eager to save Noni, Satish offers to marry her. But, before the ceremony can take place, one of the characters decides to take a drastic step. Satish is an atheist, and in pursuit of spirituality he becomes a disciple of Swami Lilananda and travels along with him doing ‘kirtans’. In pursuit of Satish, Srivilas joins him too. They visit Shivatosh, one of Lilananda’s chief disciples in Calcutta. There they meet the beautiful, vivacious Damini, Shivatosh’s wife. Shivatosh has donated all his wealth to the Swami. When he passes away suddenly, Damini joins Swami’s entourage. She falls in love with Satish and the feeling is mutual. Damini hates the Swami and Srivilas is her only aide in the group. When things begin to look up for Damini, a terrible twist of fate turns her life upside down. Without being able to choose a life partner of her own volition, Damini is forced into something unpleasant. What happened to Damini? What does Satish feel about the incidents that take place? This book answers these questions and more. The other stories in the book include In The Night, The Editor, The Lost Jewels, The Fugitive Gold, Giribala, and Emancipation. All stories are complete and unabridged. 168 pages. ISBN: 9788176060813
